Contact us for more details. The Georgia STATE FAIR is owned and operated by the Exchange Club of Macon and is NOT tax-supported . Exchange Club members volunteer more than 7000 hours each year to operate the STATE FAIR the fourth week of September and many more selling advance tickets. Proceeds from the STATE FAIR are returned to the community in the form of support to local charities and community service programs. HistoryThe Georgia STATE FAIR has been held in Macon since 1851 and has a long tradition of family entertainment ranging from its agricultural and artistic craft roots to its carnival midway atmosphere. The Exchange Club of Macon assumed control of the STATE FAIR in 1942 as its major fund-raiser to support local charities and community service programs. Many other civic, church and fraternal organizations raise monies for their projects at the STATE FAIR such as the Jaycees, 4-H clubs, FFA, area churches and others. More Georgia STATE FAIR History Birthplace of the kazoo || Camp Oglethorpe ManagementThe Officers and Board of Directors provide general guidance and direction to the Georgia STATE FAIR as well as executive management. Various committee chairmen are appointed to coordinate all aspects of the Fair operation including Exchange Club volunteer efforts during the FAIR in various areas such as parking, the food booth, security, the midway, livestock and others. Congratulations to Ken Preston, who was named the 2007 Fairman of the Year at the 2007 Convention of the Georgia Association of Agricultural Fairs in Atlanta. CarnivalAmusements of America provided the Midway rides for the Georgia STATE FAIR from 1963 to 2003. Midwest Midways provided the carnival 2004--2006. The Georgia STATE FAIR is happy to resume its long relationship with AoA for the 2007 Fair. The 2007 STATE FAIR will have more spectacular rides!! Don't miss it! AoA started with a single ferris wheel in 1940 and under the direction of the five Vivona brothers (Morris, John, Dom, Babe &Phil), it has prospered into the world's largest traveling carnival. Amusements of America is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's largest traveling carnival.
Economic ImpactThe Georgia STATE FAIR has a positive impact on the central Georgia economy beyond the over $1.3 million donated to local charities. The benefits to central Georgia produced by the Fair since 1942 are substantial. Net proceeds of each year's FAIR are divided as follows: 50% going to the charity fund (distributed by the Exchange Club of Macon) 25% going to the City of Macon for use of Central City Park (park improvements benefit visitors year-round) [ Check presentation 2006 ] 25% for preparation expenses for the next year's FAIR. Visitors, FAIR exhibitors and carnival operators collectively spend a good deal of money in the Macon area for gasoline, food, lodging and maintenance on their equipment, all of which benefits the area economy.
